We are Tom Wood and Deborah Johnson Wood, new truck camper enthusiasts who suddenly find ourselves making shopping lists for things that a year ago we would have vehemently denied wanting — like a 10′ by 12′ swatch of indoor/outdoor carpet, patio lights and a front-end winch.
Even our lexicon has changed — “boondocking,” “happy jacks” and “dump station” pop up in conversation regularly. Who knew?
A year of intense research by Tom — during which he dissected every pro and con of travel trailers, motor homes, tents and pop-up campers — led us full-circle to the RV style we wanted in the first place: truck camper.
So here we are, proud owners of a 2000 Lance 820 Truck Camper, a 2003 GMC Diesel 2500 Club Cab, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Louie (we already had him, but his role has changed from pet to travel companion), a growing library of atlases and “best campgrounds” books, a well-used GPS and an endless supply of dreams.
We work and live in Grand Rapids, MI where Tom is a marketer for an international corporation and Deborah is a journalist for online magazine Rapid Growth #mce_temp_url# and, of course, where we daydream of firing up the rig and heading for lazy days in the sun.
See you on the road!
Deborah

Enjoy the Lance! We certainly did love our Lance 1030 for the 5 years we owned it. We had many wonderful trips and excursions in the midwest, southwest, Canada and Alaska. The Lance is probably the best pickup camper made. The storage is unbelievable, and every detail is well planned.
Hi Lois, thanks for checking out our blog and for the great encouragement about the Lance. I can’t wait for warmer days here in Michigan.
Lois, I’ve added your blog to my blogroll on my site. Keep smiling!
